Google Penguin Update Hammers Black Hat SEO

Google Penguin Update Hammers Black Hat SEO

Google-Penguin-and-black-hat-seo-300x300 Google Penguin Update Hammers Black Hat SEO
The last two Panda updates taught me some hard lessons regarding search engine optimization. Also, the last couple of Pagerank updates made me realize that black hat search engine optimization was just a waste of time. I saw my Pagerank fall from a prestigious value of 5 to 4. As if that was not enough, I went down to 3. The last two panda updates too cut back my search engine traffic by almost fifty percent and all my backlinks looked worthless. I never considered it simply as SEO, it’s always been The Dark Arts of SEO.

That was when I started realizing that optimizing your website the black hat way wasn’t going to pay off anymore. I stopped and focused on on-page SEO and did less backlinking. I’m admitting here that I’m not a saint and I’ve done some dirty stuffs in the past but Google made me learn how the game was supposed to be played and I complied.

Exit Panda, Enter Penguin

Well, Panda is dead and gone, and it even favored some who engaged in the dirty game but Penguin is here and a lot smarter. Lots of sites were hit but luckily for me, I think my hard work payed off. Like I mentioned earlier, I stopped playing dirty since the last two Panda updates and focused more on generating high quality content, on-page SEO and moderate off-site SEO. Over-optimization now can get you penalized and make you disappear from SERP.

According to Google its Webmaster Central blog on April 24, “We’ve always targeted webspam in our rankings, and [Penguin] represents another improvement in our efforts to reduce webspam and promote high quality content. While we can’t divulge specific signals because we don’t want to give people a way to game our search results and worsen the experience for users, our advice for webmasters is to focus on creating high quality sites that create a good user experience and employ white hat SEO methods instead of engaging in aggressive webspam tactics.”

Aftermath of the Penguin Update

For about a couple of weeks now, I’ve noticed a rise in traffic and this is a clear indication that I’m now on the right track. If you’ve been playing the game the right way too, you traffic shouldn’t go down even if there’s no noticeable increase.

Right from 24th of last month, if you noticed a drop in traffic, you’ve been hit. Check your Google Analytics report and compare your traffic to what it used to be. It’s time to make some strategic changes.

Recovering from the Penguin Hammer

I was a Panda victim that recovered and I believe that if you got hit by Penguin, you can definitely bounce back but it’s not that easy and you may give up even before there’s any positive change.

- Stop over stuffing your content with keywords. You should write your articles for human reading, not google bot.

- You may want to stop buying backlinks or using those backlinking softwares for a while. Let things happen naturally.

- Aviod duplicate contents and topics. If you already have these, you should merge similar topics and use 301 redirect

- You have enough spammy backlinks already, try using social bookmarking for both traffic and SEO

- Consider doing your off page SEO the right way!

If you think your site was affected wrongly and you’re pretty sure you did nothing wrong, you may contact Google. The spreadsheet is to inform Google that you were punished by mistake and not guilty of any SEO crime.  I doubt if that will be as effective though because there’ll be thousands of complaints they won’t be able to handle.

Boost Your Search Engine Rank With ALT Tags

The National Zoo's new Panda Habitat, where giant panda Mai Xiang enjoyed her first meal-Boost Your Search Engine Rank With ALT TagsOne simple technique can improve your search engine rank, make site navigation easier, and increase the accessibility of your site to disabled visitors. Yet, as many as 78% of sites don't use it! Boost your site's profile with human visitors and search engine spiders
 with the ALT tag.

Inserting ALT Text

Adding ALT descriptions to your IMG tags is quick and easy. You don't have to do any complex HTML coding. If you can describe your image or link, then you can add ALT tags to your code.

We've used some examples from the National Zoo's Web site:
The National Zoo's new Panda Habitat, where giant panda Mai Xiang enjoyed her first meal-Boost Your Search Engine Rank With ALT Tags

<img src="thumbnails/fneg2000-12441a.jpg"
width="100" height="78" ALT="The National
Zoo's new Panda Habitat, where giant panda
Mai Xiang enjoyed her first meal"
>

You can also include an ALT tag when your image is a link:

<a href="http://pandas.si.edu/gallery/
airportzoo/pages/fneg2000-12441a.htm">
<img src="thumbnails/fneg2000-12441a.jpg"
width="100" height="78" ALT="See the National
Zoo's new Panda Habitat, where giant panda
Mai Xiang enjoyed her first meal"
></a>
Ideally, your ALT text descriptions should be complete sentences, rather than a list of keywords or obscure phrase like "company logo small 2." Remember that all visitors are likely to see (or hear) some version of your ALT text so be sure that it's meaningful.
Optimize ALT Descriptions For Search Engines
Besides helping human visitors, ALT descriptions help you rank higher in some search engines. AltaVista and Google are two of the search engines that use ALT descriptive text when they rank Web sites. The growth of search engine/directory partnerships means that a high rank in one engine can often translate into an improved rank on its partner sites.
Search engine algorithms calculate the number of times keywords are repeated and give higher rank to pages that use them often. Keywords in the ALT descriptive text help you increase their frequency on the page. Search engines assume the terms are more relevant and important if they're used in the page content, not just listed in the META tag.
For instance, the descriptive text in the National Zoo example code uses keywords and keyword phrases from the META keyword tag: National Zoo, panda, Mai Xiang, and giant panda. Since these are relevant to the site's content, they're easy to include as descriptive text.

Make Your Web Site Sticky
ALT tags help you promote your site in another way too: they help make it "sticky." Sticky means that visitors stay at your site longer so they see your content and purchase your products. Visitors who feel comfortable at a site will stay longer - and hopefully return often.
Disabled visitors who use text-only or spoken word browsers rely on the ALT text for clues about the image's content and function. This can be a lucrative audience: they represent a worldwide audience of 750 million and spend twice as much time online as the average user. But it isn't just a disability issue: ALT tags make your site more accessible to everyone.
Visitors see your ALT text while the images are downloading or when they mouse over images. The descriptive text helps them decide if they want to wait for an image to download or move on to a different page. If your image is also a link, then visitors can read the explanatory text and quickly jump to the section they want.
Don't Follow The Crowd
Online retailers devote a lot of time and expense to developing their sites. Surprisingly, most ignore a technique that makes it easier for customers to find and navigate through their sites!
The April 2001 Web Usability Index survey found that the majority of sites surveyed in 4 major categories had missing ALT tags.
Category% With Missing
ALT Tags
Ecommerce78%
Portals76%
Corporate61%
Identity57%
ALT tags are a small addition to your HTML code that can make a big impact on your site. Since many of your competitors don't use them, give your site and edge and include them on all images.
NetMechanic's Search Engine Power Pack, alerts you to techniques like this that help boost your site to the top of the rankings. It includes tools like Page Primer, which warns you about missing ALT tags and other problems. Other tools include: a keyword selection tool, META tag generator, search engine submission tool, and a tracking tool to monitor your rank.

Link, link system is an important factor in ranking a website on search engines for certain keywords. However, many webmasters have misconception about link building. Here are 10 misconceptions about how the construction of a link system to bring potential customers from search results pages of search engines.
1. Exploited to exchange links. The misuse of link exchange is outdated. However, if using a logical and natural way to limit the exchange of two-way link can be exploited.
2. More links to your site is better. Number of links is necessary but not sufficient. You need to pay attention to the link quality; focus on the factors determining the reliability of the Website.

3.
Do not use Anchor links (text links). Archor links are more valuable to many times the link of use images or Flash JavaScripts.

4. Link farms - free link. This is one of the SEO tips that webmasters use a lot, but this procedure is not effective for some years now. Search engines easily detect and apply the sanctions measures to join the system Website link on the farm.
5. Only link to the homepage. Let the optimal structure within the Web site by linking well to other components on the page. Conversely, too many links from the home page but no link on the page in the making of the Website link is not natural and the search engines will pay attention to this.

What is a DoFollow link?

Today I have a simple explanation of what DoFollow Links are.
Now if you have never been on the SEO World before, I will recommend you to read my post:
Before I even start this post I will like to tell you that a Link is a connection that you can create between two websites.
These links can be normally located inside Text or Pictures and you will need to use basic HTML Markup to create these connections.
Side Note: These days you won’t need to know HTML Markup to create links because you can use HTML Editors instead.
Here are some examples of links. Remember these links are creating a connection between two sites. In this case, these links create a connection between my site CMS Teachings Blogand the other websites that the link itself is pointing out.

Text Links Examples

Google Website - This link is pointing to http://www.google.com/
Yahoo Website - This link is pointing to http://www.yahoo.com/
Bing Website - This link is pointing to http://www.bing.com/

Images Links Examples

So as you can see links are just simple connections that point to different websites, but nowwhat DoFollow Links are?
The difference between a Normal Link and a DoFollow Link is that the DoFollow Link has a special HTML Markup inside that tells the Search Engines like Google to FOLLOW the destination inside the link. Now have in mind that using this special markup or not will make the link a DoFollow Link automatically.
In this case let’s go back to the example from above:
Google Website - This link is pointing to http://www.google.com/
If we analyze the HTML Markup from that link, the code will look like the text below.
NORMAL LINK – HTML MARKUP
<a href="http://www.google.com/" target="_blank">Google Website</a>

However if you add the DoFollow Value to the attribute rel, your markup will look like below.
NOFOLLOW LINK – HTML MARKUP
<a href="http://www.google.com/" target="_blank" rel="dofollow">Google Website</a>

As you can see the only difference is the following attribute rel="dofollow" which in this case having the attribute rel="dofollow" will do the same as if you have nothing.
In other words, if you want to make a link dofollow just add the attribute rel with the value dofollow or just leave the link as it is.
At the same time there is a special value that tells the Search Engines they cannot follow the links and those kinds of links are called NoFollow Links but if you want to know more about those kinds of links click on the link below.
Now people will tell that DoFollow Links are better than NoFollow Links but in my personal experience and opinion both of them are good and that’s why I prepare a special blog post for you.
So guys just as a quick summary a DoFollow Link will be a link that the Search Engines will be able to follow and as a consequence some SEO benefits will be transferred to the website that the link is pointing.
Normally one of the mayor benefits while applying or getting DoFollow Links is that we can increase the Google Page Rank factor.
If you don’t know what Google Page Rank is, click on the link below.
So guys that’s it for me and if you have any suggestions just use comments the below.

Title Tag Optimization Tips For Arenamazza visters

Title tag is the most important of all the tags and has the highest on page optimization value and let me tell you that your rankings highly depend on your title tag therefore, I will advice you to use your most important keywords first in the Title tag and the less important one at the end.

Don't repeat the same title tag for multiple documents this is the biggest mistake I often see. Many of the sites are not even interested in giving a Title to their page and I come across many pages that are Titled "Untitled Document" if you are also using any similar Title then you are making a big mistake.

Example of how Title looks:

Since this tag plays a vital role in determining your site’s ranking in the search engines, title tag optimization for each page is necessary and I will highly recommend to pay a lot of attention to the words that appear in this tag and the order in which they appear. You need to develop a crisply worded title tag that includes your most relevant keyword phrases and performs the function of announcing the summary of your web page’s content.

Your title tag should be enticing and should attract people rather than filling your title tag with keywords use a title that makes some sense and is appealing to your visitors to go through and should also use some of your most important keywords and phrases.

Why is the Title Tag Important
Almost all crawler based search engines use the Title Tag to gather information about your web site. The search engines use the words or the content of the Title Tag during the ranking process to analyze the relevance of your web page.. Major search engines like Google, Yahoo, AOL, AltaVista, and AllTheWeb use your web page's Title Tag to evaluate its relevance.

Title Tag is also important to the human seekers who are seeking for your products and services in the search engines because enticing Title is what that is clicked.

How to Optimize Title Tag ?
It is better to place your service or products in short descriptive sentences in such a way that your title contains your most important keywords (60 characters is recommended) rather than placing your company/domain name. This is because most Internet users search for specific products or services, not company names. But if you strongly feel like placing your company name in your title tag, then place it at the end of this tag.

Following are some tips you need to follow to fully optimize your Title:

Use your most important keywords first in the Title tag and use less important ones after that. As an example suppose my primary keywords are: seo, seo tools, seo e-books, seo india and seo india is the most important of them all then I will use something like:

Try to target not more than 3-4 keywords in the Title Tag exceeding this limit can be seen as spam.
Make a Title Tag that talks to your targeted traffic rather than filling it with keywords, use this tag efficiently such that it appeals but still presents your important keywords. As an example:

In the above tag I used my primary keywords - search engine optimization, search engine optimization services and search engine optimization india, but still it looks enticing.

Consider using both singular and plural forms of the important words in your Title Tag. For instance, you may use both ‘service' and ‘services' while making the Title Tag. Google is still experimenting with Stemming (interchange of singular and plural terms); however, it is fluctuating in its deployment frequently.

A word of Caution : Do not overdo it.
Title Tag length: Google usually reads about 60 characters of your Title Tag. Therefore, a Title Tag of about 50-60 characters is good enough.

Avoid using the same Title Tag throughout your site. Try using a unique Title Tag for each web page and use keyword phrases that holds theme relevance to that page. You also get to leverage more keyword phrases if you individualize the Title Tag in all pages.

Black vs White SEO - Why you need them both?

Today, I am bringing a topic that probably is taboo for some people and it is bad for others. But the fact in my personal experience and view is that a lot of people is either making bad assumptions because They have two techiques...

1) they have being uninformed
2) they have never learned anything related to these techniques and use them in their websites.
As a consequence, they are just making bad conclusions from what they have heard on the internet.
As a reminder, humans normally do this kind of things. When they hear something from a good resource or what they think is a good resource, they just normally believe it.
You should always learn more from different resources and try to make your best conclusions.
Now, what I am going to be talking in here is about Black Hat SEO and White Hat SEO.
As I have probably mentioned before White Hat SEO and Black Hat SEO are two great SEO Techniques that anyone should learn in order to open their minds regarding this online art. Yes, you should be aware that there are specific parts from the Black Hat SEO that will probably harm your websites, deteriorate your reputation, and probably even put you in jail.
But when I am referring to Black Hat SEO, I am not referring to E-Mail Spamming, Keyword Stuffing, Stealing Credit Cards, Cheating Customers, Hacking Websites, or anything that can probably put you in a situation that you can probably be sorry later on the road.
But before going there, let’s take a quick look to what White Hat SEO and Black Hat SEOis and how they differentiate. In here, I will be mainly talking about the linking part on the SEO World because links are the greatest factors to rank better on the Search Engines overall.
What is White Hat SEO?
White Hat SEO is basically the process to create links manually which look natural to the Search Engines.
Some examples of these manual links are:
1) Visiting blogs and commenting while leaving your link inside your name.
2) Visiting forums and becoming active members and leaving your links inside your signature.
3) Visiting Article Directories and submitting your articles with your links.
4) Visiting Web Directories and inserting the links inside them.
These are only a few techniques and the thing that makes these techniques White Hat SEOis because we need to personally visit those sites and insert the links manually. The problem with this process is that it can take lots of time while building links. So you will need to be really selective where you expend your time while creating White Hat SEO Links.
Also White Hat SEO means to follow some standards that according to the SEO community or whatever person or set of persons, they think it is always the right thing to do.
In other words White Hat SEO is the process of optimizing your website by using “Good Techniques”. (This is according to the community which in my personal experience is not always good to follow that advice.)
But now let’s see what part of the Black Hat SEO will be good for your Joomla Websites. Again everything in here is about creating links because the more links we have the better.
What is Black Hat SEO?
Now Black Hat SEO has been normally given the picture of the Dark Arts from the SEO. People think that all Black Hat SEO is really bad, but in fact is NOT. Remember, in here I am not referring to E-Mail Spamming, Keyword Stuffing, Stealing Credit Cards, Cheating Customers, Hacking Websites, Breaking Governmental Laws, or anything that bad.
Yes I know that normally Black Hat SEO is known by those bad things. But you can use black hat tools to create links to your sites more quickly, sometimes in big quantities, and just merely by automatizing the process of link building.
Have in mind that people will say that you could get sandboxed by Google which means, Google will expel you from their Search Engine Result Pages.
But let me ask you this, if you could really get sandboxed by Google by just creating a lot of links pointing to your website, what is stopping competitors to creating lots of links to their enemies so they can get them sandboxed from Google? Just think about it.
The key here is Moderation. Using Black Hat SEO Tools in moderation will help, but if you go overboard, that my friends will be no good but just waste of your time.
1) Again we don’t want to make bad things, so imagine this, what about if you could have a software where you can actually insert your articles to all of your favorite Article Directories at once without the necessity to visit each site every time?
2) What about if you could submit your websites to all your favorite Web Directories without the necessity to visit each site?
3) Ask yourself this, would you save time using this tools by instead visiting each site?
I will say, Hell yeah!
Now probably I will disappoint you because I won’t be giving more details for now, but right now you already know that not all Black Hat SEO is really bad and in fact you should start learning as soon as you can because these two sides of SEO are good for you. You will need to start open your mind to this Hidden SEO World.
